New Banking Rules for Cheques Drawn on Canadian Banks

If a cheque is drawn on a Canadian bank, US or United States must written in as part of the amount shown in words unless it is pre-printed on the cheque by the bank. The proper location is indicated in red on the example shown here. The cheque will not be accepted by our bank unless US or United States is written in the proper place on the cheque.

XE.com Foreign Exchange

We recommend xe.com for low-cost foreign exchange. Actual exchange rates are generally about 1% to 1.5% more than the mid-market rates published by financial web sites (including their own home page) and newspapers, and much better than most bank and credit card rates. It may take a week or two to set up your account and link it to your bank, and trades can take 10 to 14 days to process, so you must plan ahead to use this service. If you use xe.com to pay your marina account, the funds can be sent to us by US dollar cheque or by Electronic Funds Transfer directly to the marina's bank account.
